Listed at $34,500 USD.
1932 Henry Ford Steel Chopped 3 Window Coupe Same owner for last 62 years but not long ago at 81 he passed away while revamping an decades old customization. Being well versed he was doing most the work himself and unfortunately no one really knows much of what his final plan was. There is not much in paperwork/receipts. There are $5,342.00 in saved receipts. Frame was purchased in 2021 for $1,850.00 today 2026 same frame costs $2,750.00. In 1970s he spent time in Bakersfield, CA with his own built 1939 Fiat (Bud Man) A-altered with a 517ci Chevy big block. There is nothing to hide here and since I am not a expert I could have missed something. Please feel free to bring a professional mechanic/paint and body person if desired to examine the car. THE BODY > 1932 Henry Ford steel 3 window coupe. Earliest photo is from 1956 and body was already chopped by then (app. 2 3/4" chop) and sported some kind of vintage V8 flathead at the time. What we know is missing is the original dash and firewall. There is about a 1" thick piece of plywood that appears was used maybe as a mock up firewall?. Both doors appear to be in great shape and appears he was working on them, the hinges, door jams and pillars and moving to modern electric door openers/locks and some of these parts are new and included (appears he might have been looking at electric for rumble seat deck lid also). New pair Bear claw latches and Slimline Bear jaw latches/plates. All 4 fenders are there. Missing 1 of the 4 hood pieces, one of the louvered panels. Deck lid and running boards there. Windshield with frame and trim along with rear window with frame and trim (including original crank set up) and the trim for door windows (no door glass) are there with all needing restoration. What we believe are the original headlights with the headlight bar are there also in need of restoration. He did replace a couple of pieces of wood framing on body and appears most if not all is there with most still needing restoration. Original front and rear bumpers are there. Did not find license plate bracket or any rear lighting. Currently body is just sitting on frame aligned up and with one screwdriver thru rear passenger side body mount hole into frame mounting hole and one screwdriver thru driver's side front body mounting hole into frame mounting hole. THE FRAME > Custom 1932 boxed frame from Black Board Hot Rods out of Bakersfield, CA and includes installed fender nuts, running board pads and 1932 crossmember. New 1932-34 spring mounting kit (3" housing). 1932 power brake 7" dual diaphragm and complete booster assembly for disc brakes all around. Wishbone spilt kit rod ends, 5/8" RH weld bung, 11/16" RH Heim w/5/8" hole, 11/16" RH weld bung and seals. Pair custom clip axels with 1/2" axel studs. Double D u-joint 3/4-30. 10 bolt Chevy rear end. There is a what appears to be a newly built driveline that looks about ready to install. Appears steering is close to finished. Appears he was starting on foot pedals also. Gas tank has been professionally restored and includes new sending gauge still in box. Includes a set of front rims that match rears on car currently (new/like new). THE MOTOR & TRANSMISSION > Engine # comes back as a 1991 Chevy 350. Everything bolted on it is new - Edelbrock 4BBL carburetor and Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, Mallory distributor, starter, alternator, headers, water pump, timing chain cover, valve covers and includes power steering pump complete kit with pully and reservoir. New aluminum radiator. Looking at motor the first time had thought it might be a rebuilt or good used motor so brought in a 'real' mechanic to check compression and found that block is seized. It is possible he was just using it as a mock up to fit rest of running gear/driveline but do not know for sure? Current block maybe able to be rebuilt but would not know until pulled apart. Transmission is a Turbo 350 automatic and all appears fine with it. THE INTERIOR > No dash found. As noted appears he was going to all electric door openers, locks, windows and maybe even rumble seat deck lid and a number of those parts are there (many new). There are a set of modern electric bucket seats (not sure what they are out of) that it appears he was going to use that are included. Custom steering set up and includes a chrome tilt steering column. New set of 6 Dolphin gauges still in the shipping box. The table with wood parts includes small buckets and boxes full of small parts mostly body bolts, nuts & other bolts and door parts (hinges). Also includes a small pile of old extra parts (on floor to the right of seat photo) and consists of a driveline, 4BBL carb, older nonstock steering column, radiator, old axels (gearing looks fine) and a older master cylinder reservoir. TITLE & PAPERWORK > Current Registration is Non-Op and up to date, brand new CA license plates match Title & Registration and title is clear and in hand (with husband's passing has been transferred to wife's name). Vin # DR88966 and 1932 Ford printed on title. An assigned ID # with a DR prefix holds a very specific meaning in CA DMV history. DR stands for "Department Registration" (or Division of Registration) or "Dealer Registry" (or Dealer Register) used from 1930s to 1950s. UNFORTUNATELY WE CANNOT FIND THIS TAG IF IN FACT IT WAS A PHYSICAL TAG. Four of us have looked thru house, garage and toolboxes and have not found it? Even though the original 1932 Murray body tag remains attached to sub rail appears neither California DMV or CHP will allow it to be used on paperwork currently. In the 1950s when we think the reassignment occurred based on the 1956 photo a new assigned # could have been; 1) Mounted/Attached to original frame (original frame gone since 2021). 2) Mounted/Attached to body (can not find physical tag). 3) Could have been stamped on to the swapped in motor (flat head motor in 1956 photo gone since before 2021). After consulting with DMV and local CHP Vin officer was informed that at least in California (other states maybe quite different) that there is only 1 option at this point after transfer to retain 1932 on title, vehicle can be put together and it could be VIN verified and assigned as a special construction then, new owner could apply for an SB100 exemption to put 1932 back on title (again have original Murray 1932 body tag still mounted to original sub rail).
