1940 Dodge Business Coupe Here's a good project car, not modified, very stock and original. It belonged to my brother who died about a year ago and did hundreds of hours of work on it, but he did not complete the project. It has the original flathead six engine in good working order, original three speed column shift transmission, stock interior, ancient bias-ply tires that hold air. It has the stock six volt positive ground electrics. It comes with a trunk full of spare parts, a spare transmission, and loads of manuals and documentation. Aside from a few trim bits and a lock core it is complete. The dash is complete and original but needs work. It has a trippy airbrushed goddess on the dash. The paint is not original, and the respray is many decades old. The steering wheel is not original. The only body or frame rust I can find are two small spots on the front inner fender wells, and some around the edges of the trunk lid. All else solid. There are a couple minor body repairs but mostly it's straight. It was pulled out of a barn in Paso Robles five years ago where it had sat for decades. It is not registered and is out of the CA DMV system, sold with bill of sale only. Note that the license plates shown in the photos do not match and are not registered to this car. I saw the engine running in August 2025. It started on the first turn of the key and ran smooth and quiet with fuel supplied from the new tank through the rebuilt fuel delivery system. That was with an old donor radiator while the original radiator was getting rebuilt. The engine block was thoroughly flushed while the donor radiator was in the car. The rebuilt radiator is now in the car but that project was not finished. I have not seen the car drive/shift/brake, etc. and I believe it's been decades since it has. My brother was very meticulous in everything he did, and this car shows his attention to detail. Here's what was recently done: Brakes 90% rebuilt New gas tank and lines Engine exterior components rebuilt or replaced Carburetor rebuilt $800 rebuilt/recored stock radiator Engine block meticulously flushed/de-scaled, new water distribution tube, hoses, water pump, all freeze plugs removed to service the block and replaced. Reupholstered/resprung front seat Undercarriage meticulously cleaned New leaf spring bushings Replaced or refurbished lights/lenses/bezels, etc. New or serviced wheel bearings New battery Rebuilt alternator and starter Things needing attention: Brake lines not connected (although it has all new soft lines, mostly new hard lines, and all slave and master cylinders rebuilt) Connecting rebuilt radiator/fan/belt Most electrical not gone through, although engine electrical working Drivers side door latch sticks Window mechanisms stiff No rear seat (as a business coupe I don't think it ever had one, but whatever was back there is missing) Some glass cracked but holding together Will need new tires to roll at speed Headliner and carpet The car is located near Murphys, CA and will need to be towed.
