1941 Ford Super Deluxe for sale in Portland, OR
Listed at $23,941 USD.
For Sale is a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe V8 Coupe in very original and nearly unmodified condition. This is one of those cars that comes along once in a while and has really avoided the customizers, Hot Rodders and kids hands. It’s quite literally a hop in and drive it just about anywhere driver. This belonged to a friend of mine’s Father In Law and was titled by him in 1996. I am listing it for them due to his passing - so they are the ones selling the car, again, I’m listing, they are selling. They have a clean, clear title in hand matching the VIN that is clearly also stamped from manufacturer on the left front frame rail with no brands, liens or encumbrances. This car is an excellent addition to a collection or for the person who wants a dependable driver quality and no nonsense but original type early Ford. I’ve owned many V8 Fords 1932-53 so I know a little about them - not an expert but reasonably versed in the breed. I’ll do my very best to describe this car to you so that you know exactly what it is, and what it isn’t. This car is one of the most solid, best running, starting and driving early Fords I’ve ever come across. You know the kind - whisper quiet sweet sounding V8, solid, always been in use of some sort and always been a nice car. The family had the car in a local shop - Scott’s Automotive in early August of this year - a month ago - and Scott and his techs went through the car front to back. Just shy of $4200.00 was spent making the car road worthy and ready for the next caretaker - they did not want to sell the car with its issues, so they had them all fixed. Under the hood the car retains what appears to be its original 221 C.I. Flathead 90 HP V8. The engine and transmission are as OEM, and the only addition to the powertrain is a nice set of dual exhaust, with glass packs and pencil tips out the back in just the right spot. It has a sweet sound, but not harsh and not loud. This exhaust is in great shape. Spark plugs were replaced, original crab style distributor was retimed and point gap properly set. Both water pumps were replaced with new roller bearing type water pumps. Fuel tank sending unit was also replaced so the guage reads correctly. Fuel tank, carburetor and fuel pump were previously replaced. Car is 6 volt as OEM and the battery is also new. Oil was changed. This car starts, runs, shifts and operates very nicely and everything in the powertrain works smoothly and as it should. It doesn’t overheat or have any drivability issues. Brake cylinders were replaced all around and along with them a new master cylinder installed. The only thing I can pick on here is at times the brake lights don’t function, but likely this is simply the inline hydraulic switch working sporadically, an easy fix. The car rolls on 15” chrome wires, not sure when these were installed but they look good and function well, as do the 205/75r15 radial tires that are matched all around. The wheels have a bit of age and very light pitting to the chrome, and could benefit from an acid cleaning, but are very presentable and not rusty. I personally would go back to a 16” steel possibly witb wide whites, but that’s just me. Front shocks have been upgraded to tubular (happened as OEM around 1947 I believe) and rears are still original style Houdaille style lever shocks. The car drives, stops, steers and does everything it should, wonderfully. Inside the car is all super clean and pretty darned nice - has what I’d call mohair interior - I can’t imagine it’s original and still being this nice so my guess is a Lebaron-Bonney interior installed at some point in time. Everywhere you look is all very clean and nice all the way through and shows very little wear. No sign or smell of cigarette smoke. It has no stains, issues or odd odors. Both doors shut easily and nicely, lock with key, steering column locks as it did originally and all gauges work, even speedometer. Odometer reads 25545 and is likely 125k but due to age car will be sold as mileage unknown (see oil change sticker comment below) A newer style temp guage is on a small panel under dash to track engine temps accurately and it runs pretty cool even did on the hot summer days we had. Trunk locks. All glass is good, crack and chip free again too nice for OG so newer would be my guess. A simple turn signal toggle switch setup is underdash and functions well. Horn works, cowl vent works, glove box is minty fresh and holds a reproduction owners manual. It appears the car had a radio but that is currently not present. Seat belts have been added for safety. Body - super nice! We have not found any rust or rot and there is no bubbling in the paint. It would appear the car was originally black and was repainted to its current Cordovan Maroon. Chrome and bumpers are all in place and very nice. An oil change sticker in drivers door jamb says: H H Speaker / Downey California and the mileage then appears to have been 75,911 - which is pretty consistent with the 25k showing now, having likely rolled over. Solid, solid, solid body that’s indicative of a SoCal car that moved at some point up to Southern Oregon and has been indoor kept. The paint isn’t going to win best paint at indoor shows but does still show well. Weatherstripping is nice, window seals are nice. The front fender welting isn’t as pretty, could be replaced or left alone. Running board rubber (boards were much narrower in 1941 due to a new, wider body) appears to be original and is aged, intact, but aged. Where the original antenna was shows the original black paint transition. The floors are wonderful, as is trunk floor and the rear tool tray which usually is rotted, but not this one. The wooden tool tray covers have been replaced but nicely. This car is a no surprises, honest as they come old car, it really is!! Now for the nitty gritty - $23941 or near offer, the car is is 85 years old so will be sold as is, and true mileage unknown. Clean and clear Oregon title is in owners hand and will be released, as will the car, when paid in full. No trades, no payment schemes and owners don’t need help selling the car. In person viewing can be arranged by appointment, and owners are happy to meet you at that appointment. Please please please have permission to purchase lined up, and we ask those who are interested to be straight up and serious - as the sellers are. Any and all transportation costs will be at the expense of the purchaser, and transport can take place upon reciept of full payment. I’ll do my best to answer any questions you may have and if I don’t know the answer am happy to find out. Thank you for looking at this ad and this gorgeous vintage V8 Ford.
