1955 Pontiac Custom Catalina for sale in San Francisco, CA
Listed at $34,537 USD.
This is a fabulous original 1955 Pontiac showing original mileage. I purchased this car in 1994 when it had 87000 miles on it. I have put the last 7000 miles on it in 32 years. It was a great specimen when I found it, and I did a general restoration on it at that time (see pics), and it still looks like new. I went through the original 287 engine, Hydramatic transmission, and correct paint. The car required NO body work (see pics). It has always been a clean California car. It wears the then-mandated 1963 issue license plates required on all cars in California at that time. The interior is completely original, including the carpet and leather headliner. The main flaw is the wear on the driver's seat, which needs to be sectioned, and the car could use carpet. The brown color in the trunk is old glue from the mat, not rust. New trunk material is included. The car runs and drives excellent, and needs almost nothing. All gauges, lights, heater, and normal functions like windows cranking up and down, door opening and closing, work as they should. Only the clock is inoperable. The main things the car needs is the steering column internally needs to be lubricated, so the shifter is quite stiff to move, and the hood springs are weak. Things like carburetor and generator still have the original tags on them, along with original bent fuel lines and fuel filter with a water drain! The window flippers work better than any of the '55 Chevy's I've seen in recent years. These are very straight and work smoothly. No dents in any trim work or fender skirts. The car drives, stops, and handles very well. This is the top of the line Pontiac for the time. This one was ordered without power assist options. There are no squeaks, rattles or wind noise while driving. It feels very solid.. because it is! It has the original sand/white paint colors. Look closely at how original the engine compartment is with original assembly line paint marks, and look at the door jambs.. quite a survivor. This is a car for the purest who appreciates driving an original car and having that awesome original aura and feel. It's been garaged for at least 32 years, and appears to have been garaged before that. https://youtube.com/shorts/IfqaQVx9SvY?is=Nku3gnrkhTECYFzl https://youtube.com/shorts/LXrtKmwBmM8?is=8cabzeFRwHa_Hhh3 Cash only, no trades.
