If you’re a VW fanatic or someone who loves a good diesel project, this 1982 Rabbit Pickup deserves a look. It’s a rare survivor with a great backstory and plenty of potential for restoration, customization, or even an electrification build. Overview Originally part of a Connecticut painting company’s fleet, this truck was later purchased by my uncle and eventually passed on to me. It left the factory white, but I repainted it black. It ran and drove regularly until last summer and has been sitting since. The long‑term plan was a full restoration or EV conversion, but time has made that unrealistic — so it’s ready for its next enthusiast owner. Mechanical & Condition • Runs and drives — starts well once jumped (battery is dead). • 5‑speed diesel — classic VW simplicity and efficiency. • Four floor pans replaced — both sides, front and rear. • Driven regularly until last summer — has sat since. Known Issues • Dead battery — will need replacement. • Clutch — engages but will need replacement soon. • Rot beginning to show — all four corners. • Window seal leaking — new seal included. • Front brakes — should be replaced; new discs and pads included. • Wiper module not working — electrical diagnosis needed.
