1982 Volkswagen Vanagon GL —1.6L Diesel 85k Miles manual transmission. Clean tittle, registered, smog exempt. Selling my Vanagon. It shows 85k miles, which I believe to be original. I believe I’m the third owner. It previously belonged to a collector who passed away, and I purchased it from a friend of his. Since owning it I’ve gone through a number of things mechanically and taken it on some pretty epic road trips. When I bought it, I drove it down Highway 1 from Seattle to Santa Barbara with no issues. The little 1.6 diesel gets close to 30 mpg on the highway. It is definitely not fast, but after a while you get comfortable with the right lane. Runs and drives well and is California registered. The diesel engine makes it smog exempt. Recent maintenance includes: * new refurbished injection pump * New starter * New battery * New brake master cylinder * New thermostat * Recent coolant flush * Recent oil change * Recently replaced tires * New belts I have the original middle seat as well. I normally leave it out because it creates a lot more cargo space in front of the bed. The bed platform and mattress make it a really comfortable, simple camper setup. I bought the mattress new and have only used it a handful of times. The whole setup can easily be removed if you’d rather use the van as a passenger or cargo van. The body presents well for a 44-year-old van however There is surface rust/oxidation on the roof from sitting for a long time, as well as two small rust areas around the rear windows, both pictured. Otherwise rust is very minimal, and the underside is extremely clean with no rust that I’ve found. Very cool, largely original early diesel Vanagon that you can actually use. Great little surf/camping van, surprisingly economical, simple mechanically, and a lot of fun if you aren’t in a hurry. Also a great candidate for a TDI swap given the condition of the body. The drivers side window pops off its track sometimes and the speedometer light just went out. Selling because owning two cars where I live is too difficult for parking. Asking $6000 OBO.
