1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D — $3,500 Automatic • 112,876 original miles • Second owner Daily-driven 1983 Mercedes 240D with over $4,000 invested in repairs during my ownership. Runs and drives very well, but still needs cosmetic work and several repairs, some of which are detailed below. A good fit for someone who wants an older Mercedes to drive while continuing to improve it. I purchased it directly from the original owner. My focus has been getting the mechanical side sorted for everyday use, and I have photos documenting much of the work. I no longer have the time to continue with the remaining projects. The car spent much of its life outdoors, and its paint and general cosmetics show it. The front seats, however, are in remarkable condition. The original owner installed seat covers when she bought the car in 1983, and in 2021 I was the first person to remove them - the upholstery underneath was like opening a time capsule. Other items included: • Original blue California license plates • New spare tire, factory jack and lug wrench • New front center grill and trim pieces • Original owner’s manuals • Rear bumper rubber trim (removed due to quarterpanel damage) Work completed: • New front brake rotors and brake pads front and rear • New brake master cylinder • New drive axles • New driveshaft, carrier bearing, and flex discs • New motor mounts, transmission mount, and engine shock absorber • Rebuilt shift box and shift linkage • New tie rods and tie rod ends • New battery, diesel primer pump, and belts • New brake booster vacuum line • New hood pad • New tires at 103,901 miles - most recent rotation at 110,396 miles • New ignition lock cylinder (separate keys provided for door and ignition) • Front and rear alignment performed at 106,662 miles Known issues: • Paint needs attention; car was previously repainted • Front passenger window glass is missing • Left hood bracket is broken • Some rear-seat upholstery damage • General cosmetic deterioration from outdoor storage • A/C does not cool: blower works, system is uncharged, and compressor belt has been removed • Sunroof does not function • Rear windows operate intermittently; driver’s window works properly • Automatic door locks do not function • Damage to left-rear quarter panel This is a car I drive regularly, with substantial mechanical work completed and a clear list of things still to address.
