1984 Volkswagen Vanagon Camper for sale in Santa Barbara, CA
Listed at $11,900 USD.
1984 VW VANAGON WESTFALIA camper van. Super clean owned for 10 years with all service done by dear friends at Top Shop. May require new transmission and I cannot afford the repair. Passed smog with Mike Ruiz and running great on Friday July 17, took her camping on Rincon Parkway same weekend. On Sunday July 19 driving back to Santa Barbara, 1st and 2nd gear stopped working at a stoplight. 3rd, 4th and Reverse gears work fine. Top Shop diagnosed “shifter has excessive play but is able to shift into all proper locations on trans selector shaft.” After draining trans fluid, observed “excessive metal in trans fluid. Likely 1st 2nd selector fork has broken. Recommend remove and replace transmission.” Estimated cost for transmission: $4114. Add replacement of all transmission shifter bushings (if needed during repair) estimated cost: $1120. All 10 years of repairs on this Westy available to review at Top Shop. Van is sitting there now waiting for decision and new owner. South Africa headlight assembly, Thule roof rack, updated interior (carpet, curtains, door panels, seat belts) and lots of fun times left to give. Please keep her running and keep her in town! Heartbroken but it’s time. Can meet anytime sooner the better. SE
