1988 Dodge RAM 150 Base 2dr Standard Cab SB for sale in Santa Barbara, CA
Listed at $6,000 USD.
Sportsmobile Van with pop-up top. This 1988 Dodge Ram Van (extended length) was converted into a Sportsmobile Camper c. 1990. It features cabinets, a sink (right now I have the water tank empty to save on weight), three captains chairs (drivers, passenger, and a third behind the driver's seat), rear bench seats that convert to a bed, and a pop-up top, featuring screen windows and great cross-breeze. The pop-top canvas is in very good condition with no rips or tears, and the zippers all work for the windows. I have 4 specially-designed mats that can be placed across the top of the van, when the top is popped up, that create an extra sleeping area. The van was converted by someone who was 6'5, so nothing feels small or cramped. There is a good 7.5' of standing room when the top is up. I have never had troubles getting this van smogged (I just had it smogged a couple weeks ago to get ready for sale, by the way) and it runs well. I just had a full tune-up done, spark plugs & wires replaced, also distributor cap and rotor, TPS Sensor, Idle Speed Control Motor, and Fuel Pump, to make sure that everything is good to go, and it has a clean bill of engine health— or at least about as clean as you get, for a 1988 van. Engine is 5.2L V8. It's a great camping and beach van. That said, it gets around 10mpg, so take that into consideration. And the engine sometimes feels a bit under-powered on very steep hills. The bad, beyond mpg, is that there is considerable rust on the cab roof, as pictured, and you may want to have it sanded/replaced/repainted. I was referred to Maaco in Santa Maria for this work, but I never got around to it. One of the rear windows doesn't work; I sealed it shut to stop a leak. There are also some electrical quirks and workarounds: the highbeams don't work (when you pull the lever for the high-beams, it cuts out the headlights instead; I'm guessing this is a reasonably easy fix, but I'm not great with electrical work); the radio is hard-wired to the battery, so you need to be sure to turn it off or you will drain the battery. I also disconnected the interior electrical to the back of the van, because it is much more energy-efficient to use LED lights and the like than the old 1990s ones. While the tire tread is good, the tires themselves are somewhat old and could use replacing. Has a propane tank, but I removed the propane stove long ago, so the system is capped off. (You could easily reconnect it if you want, but I found it easier to have a portable camping stove.) Comes with Thetford porta potti that lives in a cabinet, and which I have never used but which I appreciated having in case of an emergency. Comes also with extensive service records (along with the other recent work mentioned above: I replaced the fuel lines) and some camping equipment and bedding. Also electrical cords for shore power. I just had the van cleaned and detailed, inside and out. C. 125K miles. Sold As Is.
