1990 Mazda MX 5 Miata Base 2dr Convertible for sale in Washington, DC
Listed at $10,900 USD.
It’s time to pass the torch on a car that has brought me endless joy. I’ve owned this 1990 NA Miata since 2015. She was my daily driver for the first few years, but since 2018 she’s been garage-kept and driven primarily for enjoyment. She recently made a trip out to the Shenandoah Valley for some spirited driving and, as always, was an absolute blast. This is a mostly stock 1990 Miata with 122k miles. The previous owner installed an aftermarket exhaust, but it has a relatively stock sound and character. It's simple, light, communicative, and genuinely fun to drive. I’ve always tried to stay atop maintenance. During my ownership, the following work has been done: * 2015: Replaced the soft top with a much nicer glass-window top. Also replaced the beltline molding, rusty wiper arms, and shift boot. * 2017: Replaced spark plugs and valve cover gasket. * 2018: Professional replacement of the ignition coil pack. I replaced the radiator. Then the car transitioned from daily driver to garaged weekend driver. * 2019: Fuel pump wiring professionally repaired. * 2020: Installed Euro-spec headlights for improved road visibility. * 2021: Brake system bled and fluid refreshed. * 2022: Driver's-side door was professionally replaced and color-matched by LG Auto Body in Rockville, MD. The color match is excellent. * 2025: New 12V battery - starts like a new car * Ongoing: Regular oil changes throughout my ownership. Brake pads and rotors remain in good shape. The interior is in remarkably good condition for a 36-year-old car. The original ash tray center-console insert was replaced with a more useful cup holder, and I’ll include the original piece with the car. Known imperfections This is a 36-year-old car, and I want the next owner to know exactly what they're getting: * There is a small area of surface rust near the top of the windshield. It has remained stable during the eight years the car has been garage-kept and out of the rain. Can provide photos. * The plastic trim surrounding the rear license plate is cracked. Can provide photo. * The trunk is missing its carpet. The previous owner removed it, and I never replaced it. * The airbag warning light is blinking. I have not diagnosed or repaired the issue. None of these have prevented me from enjoying the car, but I'm listing them here so there are no surprises for the next owner. Extras included * Spare soft top in the box * Original ash tray center-console insert * Brand-new spare clutch kit The current clutch is working well; I purchased the replacement simply to have one on hand for the future. I've owned this car for over a decade, and it has been a genuinely great car to have. I'm hoping to find someone who will enjoy it as much as I have. Feel free to reach out with any questions, or if you'd like to see the Carfax report.
