1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3L – Mechanic Special / Farm Truck – Make Offer This truck has been in my family since day one. My dad originally owned it and eventually passed it down to me. It has about 360,000 miles on the body, but it received an OEM GM crate 5.3L engine and replacement transmission approximately 9 years ago. I have the major maintenance records. I've owned and worked on it for about 10 years and have done quite a bit to keep it going. It's been a good truck, but I've reached the point where I don't have the time or money to keep chasing the remaining repairs. THE GOOD: OEM GM crate 5.3L engine installed ~9 years ago Replacement transmission installed ~9 years ago Major maintenance records available California truck for most of its life Newer tires Instrument gauges work Primarily stock and not lifted Tough bed liner A lot replaced over the years, including alternator, oil pan, brakes, wheels, cooling-system components, and other maintenance items Interior isn't too bad considering the age/mileage Engine and transmission have significantly fewer miles than the chassis KNOWN ISSUES: Currently overheats after approximately 3 miles of driving, so I would consider it not roadworthy and plan on towing it I recently replaced a cracked coolant hose and heater hose, but the overheating issue remains. It needs further diagnosis. Water pump/thermostat or another cooling-system issue may be involved, but I have not diagnosed it. Front driver's-side wheel bearing and tie rods need replacement + alignment. I was quoted approximately $730 by Les Schwab Has not passed Oregon DEQ. Check-engine light has been on and it needs emissions-related repair/diagnosis, including an O2 sensor A/C does not work Radio does not work Parking brake does not work Odometer works intermittently and has been going out more frequently Exterior is rough and the paint is heavily faded/worn Passenger-side door has a dent from an unfortunate encounter with a fire hydrant Camper shell is included but is not completely watertight Trailer hitch has a locked ball mount and I've lost the key I'm trying to be as upfront as possible about everything I know is wrong with it. This is a project/mechanic-special and should be towed. Could make a great farm/work truck, project truck, or parts truck, especially considering the replacement 5.3L engine and transmission. Fix the cooling and front-end issues and keep using it, or buy it for the drivetrain/parts. I'll post more current photos soon. Clean title. Make me a reasonable offer.
