Selling our 2000 BMW E39 540i Touring. Approximately 158,000 miles. This is the V8 wagon and was sold to us as a 540iT Sport. We bought the car roughly 6-7 years ago from a BMW enthusiast who had gone extensively through it. According to his original listing, the engine was replaced with a good used block, the heads were reconditioned, and it received new seals and timing-chain work. I still have the original seller's description along with photos of the engine out of the car during the work, which I can provide to serious buyers. When we bought it, the car drove beautifully. Unfortunately it later developed a substantial oil leak. Rather than continuing to put money into an older BMW, we parked it, and it has now been sitting for approximately six years. The car is not currently a regularly driven vehicle. When the battery is charged, it starts, runs and drives, and it still drives well from what we can tell. However, because it has been sitting this long, I am selling it strictly as a project / enthusiast car and would recommend having it inspected and gone through before putting it back into regular service. Known/current condition: • Approximately 158k miles • 4.4L V8 540i Touring • Significant oil leak • Has been mostly parked for approximately 6 years • Starts, runs and drives with a charged battery • Battery will need attention/replacement • Paint and clear coat have deteriorated considerably from sun/coastal exposure • Headlights are hazy • Exterior shows normal age and weathering • Original BMW wheels • Prior extensive engine work with photos/history from previous owner I am not a BMW mechanic, so l don't want to speculate about exactly what it will need after sitting. I'm selling it as-is and pricing it accordingly. These E39 V8 Touring wagons are getting difficult to find, and I would really prefer this one go to someone who knows these cars and wants to bring it back. I have photos from when we purchased it, including the prior engine work, as well as current photos showing its present condition. $7,500 OBO.
