It is time to depart with the Forester. We have owned for the last 12 years. It has been a good and reliable daily driver. It has become a project car and we don't have anytime for that. Everything works, and the interior is good. The pictures show left fender damage and peeling paint. Oil changes every 4K miles and other fluids, like the radiator and transmission fluid every 3 years. Rear brakes and radiator were done last year. The car is old with many miles, but the engine and transmission are strong. There are no head gasket issues. You can start it and drive it anywhere. Its not a race car and pushing it like a new SUV on the freeway would not be advisable. Here is what I think it needs to keep going: Engine leaks oil from the valve cover gaskets and main rear seal. The oil does leak on to the exhaust manifolds so it smokes from the engine bay which can be annoying at times. No smoke from the tail pipe. The oil has leaked onto the rack & pinon steering assembly so the boots are compromised and the steering wheel is a bit sloppy. It is time for a tune up and timing belt change. Tire are fair, but are getting old. It is a good car still if you have some mechanical skills and can do a bulk of the work yourself or with friends. It's not practical if you needed to take it to a $200/hour mechanic for everything. The tags expired Jan 26. The car is no longer needed so it sits. I start it up and drive it around the block every other week or so to keep things fresh. The interior has no smells. I do have a new passenger mirror, catalytic converter, and tow hitch if you want to install them. Let me know if interested.
