So we mainly used it for towing our camper, it has been used for work also. We bought this not too long ago from family, because we were looking to upgrade to something bigger for us. However, my husband wants something newer. A little about it: Unmatched Towing Capability: This truck is an ideal choice for families who enjoy outdoor recreation. Whether towing a large travel trailer, a boat, a horse trailer, or heavy equipment, the powertrain is designed to handle extreme loads with ease and stability. Proven Long-Term Durability: The Duramax platform is renowned for its longevity. Many of these vehicles remain reliable daily drivers even with high mileage, making them a sound long-term investment for a growing family. The LLY Duramax Engine and Allison Transmission The 2005 model year features the LLY variant of the 6.6L Duramax V8, which is highly regarded for its performance characteristics: High Torque Output: The engine produces 605 lb-ft of torque, providing the necessary "grunt" for merging onto highways while fully loaded or climbing steep grades. Extended Engine Life: With a rigorous maintenance schedule, these engines frequently surpass 300,000 miles, showcasing the robust engineering of the block and internal components. Efficient Operation: Compared to gasoline engines in similar heavy-duty classes, the Duramax offers respectable fuel economy, especially during sustained highway cruising. The engine is paired with the legendary Allison 1000 5-speed automatic transmission, famous for its smooth shifting and ability to manage high thermal loads during heavy towing.
