This 2005 Saturn Ion is for the person who enjoys fixing cars and solving puzzles, most notably its tendency to trip the anti-theft system (in other words, the key is turned and the car may or may not start). This is a well-known issue with Saturn models, and the procedure for dealing with the anti-theft system is as follows: - With a fully charged battery, put the key in your Ion’s ignition and turn it like you are going to start the engine. Leave the key in the “on” position. You’ll see the little padlock symbol, security light, or service theft deterrent system message. Do not remove the key, or the process will start from the beginning. - Once the padlock goes out (takes about ten minutes), try and start your Ion. - If you repeat this process three times, the key should start working, and the padlock symbol should disappear. In trying to fix this problem, this car has received: - a new starter motor - a new ignition switch - and a new battery. I became the owner of this vehicle around five years ago while I was attending college, and it served its purpose well. In the past, this car has gone months at a time without requiring the security reset, and when it starts it runs great! But I’m ready to move on, and this Saturn needs to find a new home.
